BEECH GROVE OBTAINS PURCHASE RIGHTS TO ROCK PILE
11/01/2007

BEECH GROVE, IN – October 31, 2007 – Following a successful legal battle, the City of Beech Grove reached an agreement with the owner of an illegal dumping site, known as the Rock Pile, to purchase the property so it can be cleaned up and utilized for economic development purposes.

According to Mayor Joe Wright, in a hearing in Bankruptcy Court on Tuesday afternoon, the debtor accepted the City's offer to buy the land. The title to the land will be transferred to the City so clean-up work on the site can begin.

"This decision means that one more eyesore in our community is now in the hands of Beech Grove for the benefit of our City and our residents. Local control has prevailed.

"We will take immediate steps to ensure the parcel is cleaned up, made environmentally safe and marketed as the economic development offering we always have known it could be. This successful outcome is another opportunity to continue building a Better, Brighter Beech Grove," Wright said.

Located near Emerson Avenue and Garstang Street, this property is within Beech Grove's Tax Increment Finance (TIF) district, meaning that another significant portion of the community's redevelopment area is now economically viable.
