The Emerson Avenue "Tear the Wall Down" demolition ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the Emerson Avenue and Main Street entrance. The event was a huge success with over 65 people in attendance. Mayor Joe Wright presided over the ceremony. Dignitaries in attendance included city elected and appointed officials, Indianapolis Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell, and Don Foley of the Indiana State Economic Development organization.

Mayor Wright opened the event with a brief speech on the momentum the Beech Grove Redevelopment Commission has taken within the last year. "The Emerson Avenue $7 million project will change the entrance of Beech Grove and will serve as a gateway to our fine city," said Mayor Wright. He then grabbed a sledgehammer and took the first crack at the Emerson Wall. People attending the event joined in and also helped cracked the wall with the ceremonial sledgehammers.

Media coverage was received by WRTV-Chanel 6, WTHR-Channel 13 and WXIN-Channel 59; along with newspapers Indianapolis Star, Southside Times and The Spotlight.
