Hornets' Net (formerly Digital City) launched on December 3 with a virtual ribbon cutting ceremony at South Grove Intermediate School. As part of our implementation plan, the soft launch testing is underway with a phased-in testing process of the network. Approximately 50 volunteer community members representing a cross-section of the community generously offered their time and energy to help us test the system for connectivity and load performance, ensuring all areas of Beech Grove will be evaluated.
The full launch of the system is set for early 2009. Check out the new Hornets' Net Web site:
www.beechgrovewireless.com for information on service levels and costs, along with other details of the program and get ready to subscribe and be mobile and wireless in 2009!
Greenway. Has been delayed a bit because of new plan to relocate Lick Creek. If we get approval (permit) to relocate the creek, this will be the preferred plan. It eliminates two of the pedestrian bridges and its less invasive on the privacy of some of the homeowners along the trail. While this hold up cold delay parts of construction until 2011, we are pushing very hard to, at a minimum, begin construction at the north end of the trail (Sarah Bolton Park) this year.
The Redevelopment Commission, along with representatives from Schneider Corporation and Crossroads Engineers, made a presentation in November to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization in support of its grant application for $4.4 million to supplement local funding for the revitalization of Main Street. Main Street is a key component to the City's comprehensive multi-modal approach. The Redevelopment Commission expects to hear results of the grant application in the spring of 2008.
Greenway Progress Update:
With the award of a $1 million matching grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Beech Grove Redevelopment Commission will begin construction on Phase I of the community's new four-mile Greenway, providing a safe and scenic walkway for Beech Grove residents to exercise while traveling throughout the city and seeing friends and neighbors. The Greenway Committee, along with representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation and Schneider Corporation are meeting to determine next steps regarding Phase I construction.
